Explore Caroline bay and dashing rocks
Just a quick 10-minute journey from the Timaru Information Centre, you’ll discover the famous Caroline Bay. Inside this bay area, you can explore the globally renowned Trevor Griffith’s Rose Garden, artistic sculptures, charming fountains, and of course, the sandy shores of Caroline Bay. Beyond the beach, you can venture up to the historic Blackett’s Lighthouse and continue along a beloved local trail called Dashing Rocks, which boasts impressive volcanic basalt cliffs and stunning views back towards the Timaru CBD. If you happen to get thirsty on your way back, make your way up Bay Hill and enjoy a refreshing beverage at one of the restaurants with a view overlooking Caroline Bay.

Tuhawaiki (Jack’s) Point Track and Lighthouse
Tuhawaiki (Jack’s) Point is cherished by locals. Begin your journey from the heart of Timaru’s CBD, heading south along the Hector’s Coastal Track, which leads you past Patiti Point before connecting to the Tuhawaiki (Jack’s) Point track. Traverse this magnificent coastal pathway, where you’ll be treated to awe-inspiring views of the Pacific Ocean, and don’t forget to cast your eyes on the beach below, as you might be lucky enough to glimpse a New Zealand fur seal, sea lion, or even a Little Blue Penguin.
As you make your way back, consider taking a brief detour to explore Timaru’s Botanic Gardens.
