This cycle trail takes in some of the most majestic scenery in the whole of New Zealand. The completed sections of trail are all grade 1 trail and is suitable for all ages. Section 1 is completed which links coastal Timaru (starting at Washdyke) to Pleasant Point a gentle 14km ride, with cafes and toilet stops at each end. Construction is to begin in early 2024 from Pleasant Point to Cave with completion date of June 2024. The section from Fairlie to Kimbell is complete another grade 1 easy 8km ride. The last section of the trail has also begun and will be completed early 2024 which is Edwards Stream to glacial Lake Tekapo. Further stages are planned to link Cave to Fairlie and Kimbell to Edwards Stream. There, the track will join the Alps 2 Ocean trail for even more possibilities!
Allow 3-4 days to cycle the entire trail, and remember to make time to explore the region while you’re here. Alternatively make it a day trip, or tick off a section or two over a long weekend. What better way to reconnect with friends and family, or simply get away from it all?
